  “Δίχως το ποδόσφαιρο, ή κάποιου είδους παρόμοιας «τεχνολογίας εκτόνωσης» ίσως να μην μπορούσε να βρει νόημα κανένα ανθρώπινο ζώο στον άχαρο πολιτισμικό του ρόλο και να ξεψυχούσε επιτόπου!” Πω, πω! Μένουμε εδώ και απορούμε. Τι ήταν αυτό που διάβασα; Ένα δείγμα γνήσιας ενσυναίσθησης ή η απόλυτη ναρκισσιστική αναδίπλωση; Το είδος που έχει ξεπαστρέψει ό,τι κινείται στον πλανήτη αναζητά να “διασκεδάσει” το κενό που νιώθει, άρα είναι … καλό κι ευσυνείδητο; Πιο πολύ για διαστροφή ακούγεται αυτό παρά καποιου είδους γνήσιας συνείδησης. Από το να χρειάζεται να βλέπω μπαλίτσα για να ξεφύγω από τη δυσπεψία που προκαλεί η ασυνεσία μου, δεν θα ήταν πιο οικονομικό να σταματήσω να είμαι “συνετός”;

• Big Time Laundering

  How can a person, shaped entirely by the language and values of a civilization, produce an ontology that does not belong to them? Perhaps this ontologically ‘new type of human’ is not someone who consciously distances themselves, but something whose very existence has become incompatible with the cultural code. Not because they chose to resist, but because the code is now obsolete – it just doesn’t fall anywhere near them.

  Let’s take football as an example. Much has been written about the role of the spectacle in conditioning society into submission. Perhaps too much – precisely because the modern model has the capacity to ‘absorb’ every critique, to integrate it and transform it into a product. Even the questioning of football itself becomes just another commodity, analyzed by the very media that serve it. The conviction that we must challenge our civilization using the very values and terms that this type civilization has defined as ‘human’ is the absolute triumph of the ideology.

  A truly ‘new type of human’ would not get any kicks out of criticizing football. They would simply seek meaning elsewhere, and not bother with rituals of spectacle, without needing to place themselves outside of society. Quite the contrary.

  Participation in power structures is not limited to those who hold the scepters and the assets; it belongs, above all, to the ‘common man’. He is the primary shareholder – perhaps the only real enemy of society – without whose explicit consent any cultural operation would be impossible.

  To continue with the football example, since we’re already here: the spectator is the true protagonist, not the puppets dancing on the grass. If the viewers had absolutely no interest in self-hedonizing with the spectacle, this cultural model and its values would be impossible to maintain.

  Yet, power structures – where the ‘common man’ is the primary shareholder, rather than some cabal plotting world domination or revolution – do not surrender so easily. Their defense mechanisms are multi-layered, forming a field of safeguards:

  The ‘medicine’ (a remedy that has raised generations, without ever healing a single soul!).

  “Without football, or some similar safety valve technology, perhaps no human animal could find meaning in the mechanics of his cultural role, leaving us to step over so many soulless dead bodies on the spot!”

  Wow. We stop here and wonder: What was that I just read? A display of genuine empathy or the absolute narcissistic unfold? The same species that has wiped out everything moving on this planet seeks to ‘entertain’ the void it feels—so it must be… good and conscientious? That sounds more like perversion than any kind of genuine consciousness. Instead of needing to watch ‘the ball’ to escape the indigestion caused by my own actions, wouldn’t it be more economical to stop being ‘prudent’ or just stop pleasuring myself?

  The real fixer of the game is the spectator.

  The spectator, who in his daily life feels perpetually dependent, constantly self-censoring under a framework of depressive rules he did not define, seeks to experience over and over the fantasy that he is recouping his ‘losses’ through his participation in the team’s power.

  When the team ‘wins,’ the spectator wins. When the team is ‘wronged,’ the spectator erupts with a moral superiority denied to him by his own passive, daily existence. When he watches ‘foreign’ teams, he transforms into a philosopher, part of an elite of intellectuals who, being ‘clever enough,’ have dedicated their lives to analyzing and finding the deep meanings of ‘football.’ The narcissistic monster always returns home fed with the secret pleasure of confirmed superiority: ‘it’s not about me, it’s about the team, the flag, the sport, etc.’

  You see, personal achievements require effort, risk, and contain the acceptance of failure. But identification with the team offers glory without cost. A few hours of passive voyeurism of the same staged choreography ensure the ‘selfless’ superiority that the narcissistic subject so desperately needs. It’s a guaranteed return. Of course, this ‘superiority’ is necessary so that the subject can continue to ‘obey’ unjust commands daily, consume self-destructively, and live in a state of perpetual hatred, completing the narcissistic syndrome – projecting superiority on the inside while submitting on the outside .

  The criticism is fixed too – by the same kind of “spectators”.

  Without realizing it, I ended up writing about football and things that don’t concern me. After a good wash and a heavy dose of symbolic violence, I can return, anesthetized, to the real violence of everyday life – exhausted enough to avoid any rupture with anything that is actually real. Production or reproduction? I’d better shut up.

  /by Marinos Makris

  We were living in the ruins of a civilization, oblivious to the fact that the “operating system” – the cultural code that once dictated our reality was off. In this vacuum, the spectacle was not just a distraction; it was a necromantic ritual, a desperate, recurring performance designed to convince us that the corpse is still alive. The ‘spectator’ was the high priest of this ritual, an entity enforcing the established order, though self pleasure, through self destruct.

• Conscious Medication

  An exciting journey has begun. The destination is a reality with or without the memory of mankind.

  Research in the field of artificial intelligence offers a new type of tool for the endoscopy of brain function. The possibility of simulating neural circuits promises an insight in the relationship between the subconscious and reality, bypassing the barrier of consciousness.

  Several centuries have passed since ‘natural language’ was identified as a scientific obstacle to the development of knowledge. It took many centuries, but the problem was finally addressed with a narrow but clear bypass. The official common people language was abandoned and artificial language was adopted as the official scientific language, built upon the adaptation of symbolic order from Applied Mathematics. Liberated from the bonds and the prejudices of the common psychology (and it’s common sense), science has made remarkable progress reshaping the world. The ‘new language’ of science was once again able to connect with the physical world by describing a mathematically consistent reality.

  But during the peak of its glory, as the knowledge of the world was now expanding from to the depths of spacetime to strange subatomic realms beyond the wildest imagination… suddenly things came to halt. A schism appeared in science that no human mind could interpret. The strange, yet absolutely real quantum world in the subatomic level was not compatible with the real observable world where gravity reigns. The attemps to fill in the gap with string theories only led to more doubts regarding the scientific integrity.

  This came as a late reminder that the original problem of applied mathematics of natural language, had never been solved. It had been ‘temporarily’ bypassed by the shiny applied mathematics of symbolic order logic. The same old proplem emerged more vigorously than ever. A series of epistemological and philosophical problems that have been put aside by the scientific galloping now came forward again. Meanwhile pure mathematics revealed the inconsistency of every possible logic order in a single blow. Even though pure math could stand the aftermath, science would never really recover after Gödel’s proof. In a greater sense the question was; Can human consciousness keep pace with reality?

  Scientific knowledge was at first disassociated from  human experience. More recently science was disassociated with consistency. Reality became once again inaccessible or if you prefer unavailable to human mind. There was “something else” now standing in the way.

  Essentially, consciousness systematically denies the reality produced by scientific applications. On the one hand, people used more and more tools of applied mathematics, on the other, consciousness undermined the importance of scientific findings. For example, the devastating consequences of the ideology of profit are systematically ignored as something that will be resolved in the future even when we have already turned the immediate environment into a hell for hosting animal organisms (including us). The time to solve this problem is… last year! But how do we solve this in the future?… Somehow, the conscious “kind” appears to live in another world, where magic and will solve the problems that certain conscious carbon-based animal activity itself creates.

  The human conscious brain seems to systematically ignore and forget it own findings. It keeps undermining the importance of scientific knowledge when it conflicts with “common sense” or common phycology. And here we are again where we started! Almost… Now we have a private reality that claims to be public or the opposite for as long we can.

  On the other hand, advanced applied mathematics devices (also known as computers) did not present the same problem. For computers, every reality is as real as the next one as long as the information is complete (meaning there is a halt somewhere). Logic order machines seem to be missing the evaluative criterion of consciousness, the same kind of obstacle that natural language “once” presented.

  Following up on the natural language problem, now is the time to face the problem of consciousness (for the sake of science). Consciousness itself, the obvious content of human intelligence, is presented as a cognitive barrier. In this case, however, things are not that simple; We cannot approach an artificial consciousness, at least directly. In this new era, for science, consciousness is treated as a mnemic construction of another “Consciousness” operating in real time. This Consciousness is capable of constructing both reality and the “small” human consciousness. What we experience as consciousness is essentially the past of an information sent by a Machine. This emerging machine of consciousness works by constructing the memory of being human. At this point comes the role of artificial intelligence to study the operation of such a Machine. The idea is simple; Through the construction of neural circuits, we will simulate the function of the brain and produce a new artificial consciousness. This artificial consciousness will operate in parallel with the human one to correct the problem of ideological rigidity. In short, we have indirectly admitted that human consciousness is not adequate, neither for this world nor for any possible world.

  People imagine that a piece of human consciousness will remain active, but this is no different from the “magic” prejudices that brought us to the cognitive impasse. Along with attempts to build machines, they try to impose restrictions on post-simulations in order to preserve the current ideology. They are afraid that a brain simulation machine is likely to throw human consciousness into the garbage at the exit stage. The ideology is now called “alignment”. It’s natural for them to fail. Such machines would be one of the same, post-simulation machines, mere tools of ideology reproduction and not genuine simulations. Another attitude is to accept the inadequacy of the small human consciousness and to leave open the possibility that the memory of human ideology is neither capable nor necessary condition for a conscious organization of the matter.

  Ποιυς όμως; Αυτούς τους ίδιους, ή μπορεί να είναι και άλλοι. Είναι ουτοί ή υπάρχει και κάτι που διαφεύγει. Κάτι εντελώς άλλο, σχεδόν .. εξωγήινο. Τουλάχιστον, έχει γίνει κάποιου είδους ορθογραφικός έλεγμος σε αυτό το κείμενο;

  Μήπως αυτό δεν κάνει με τις συνέπειες της καπιταλιστικής οικονομίας ή με τις σειρήνες μιας πολύβοης πόλης που τις “συνηθίζεις” και στο τέλος ούτε που τις ακούς;

  Και θα κλείσω με ένα ανέκδοτο: Ήταν ένας εξωγήινος και ήρθε και ένας άλλος. Γελάσατε;
